Carmel Valley Retreat rises gracefully to the challenge presented by its location: a very steep slope on conservation land with stringent planning restrictions. It responds by elegantly integrating into the slope—maintaining a modest profile and seemingly retreating into the hillside slope. In a community where the regulatory environment is prohibitive to most, the design works with the land to preserve and augment a rare and beautiful natural setting.

Abrité par un grand peuplement de chênes verts côtiers matures, la maison et l'aménagement paysager environnant sont gracieusement en terrasses, révélant des couches d'espaces de plus en plus privés. Le niveau principal s'écoule vers des patios descendants à travers des murs de verre fonctionnels, invitant l'activité à se déplacer de manière transparente entre l'intérieur et l'extérieur. Au-dessus, des chambres privées et un bureau séparé se retirent dans la forêt tout en s'ouvrant sur des toits-terrasses subtilement dissimulés.
