Reservoir House

Shokan, NY

Designed as a vacation retreat for a family with young children, this spacious four-bedroom home is carefully nestled between an old oak tree and the existing pool and patio, built from stone quarried from the site itself.

This open design offers dramatic views of the Shokan Reservoir while its carefully sized overhangs control the penetration of the sun’s rays throughout the year. A 12-foot ceiling in the living room provides a great room feel without the added volume of a double height space, while a strategically located screened porch, open on three sides, is naturally ventilated all summer long. The master suite opens onto its own large roof deck, while the fourth bedroom—a bunk room—is designed to be sub-divided into separate rooms as the children grow older.
